The battle over the ownership of international vodka brand, Stolichnaya continues with more court dates set over the coming months.Stolichnaya is currently owned by exiled Russian, Yuri Shefler and his company Spirits International following a purchase of forty-two other brands for USD $300,000 in the nineties. Soyuzplodoimport (translated: Union Fruit Import), who previously owned the Stoliochnaya trademark, has been backed by Russian President for the past five years with a campaign to retrieve a number of Russia’s key vodka brands, which were sold off during Russia’s privatization of state assets over twenty years ago.

Bartenders from across the UK have been selected to take part in the Goral Vodka Masters of Master International Bartender Competition. The top three will win places in the global final in Bratislava in Slovakia in January 2018.The theme of the competition is “forest heritage” and the judges will be looking for the bartenders to create an inspired recipe. It calls on them to “walk through a woodland and get closer to nature by foraging for your own cocktail ingredients”. The theme is inspired by the home of Goral Vodka Master, Slovakia, which is known for its rich natural heritage, with forests covering around 40% of the country.
Who are you and how did you get involved with the GVA?My name is Ben Lindsay, and I am the editor of the Global Vodka Alliance. For the last 18 months I have been a Director at the London-based agency Garnish Communications. Garnish is a ‘drinks only’ marketing agency that was launched in 2015 by my colleague Nik. We’ve been really proud to work with some incredibly interesting products from all around the globe, and one of the biggest perks of my job is that I get to travel and meet some of the very best distillers and bartenders working in the industry today.
